I had another couple of cortisone shots, which helped. The Physical Medicine doctor says this is rather like whack-a-mole. We attack one group of muscles, then we attack another group as they begin to show themselves. I hurt all the time, some times worse than others. If I could take more oxycodone, I would feel better, but I try to hold back on that. Next is some kind of lumbar-epidural injection from a different doctor. This is all according to plan.
I have not kept up with the End-of-the-Line Club promotional work, but I’m doing the best I can. I guess this is what it means to crash. Suddenly your life changes. What you thought was going to continue along some predictable line shifts radically. It happens. It happens all the time. What we do with that is the issue. I can write, can’t I? This morning I used the wheelchair to propel myself down to the spa to get my toenails cut. Amy has insisted I keep the wheelchair open and ready to use so I don’t have to open it myself. Okay. It’s a long way, but I can do it. If I have trouble, I’ll wait for someone to come along and help. Someone always does.
As for writing, what you see is what you get. I haven’t written a poem in a long while. I’ve been slowly putting myself back together. At my age, it takes longer. I’m still sleeping in the recliner because it feels better on my back. Jerry is using oxygen, I’m taking various drugs and starting a new regimen of PT. I’m astounded at how weak I am.
We all have our ways of crumbling. We cross a threshold. Suddenly we’re old.
Do you like to hear about this? Does it kind of lead the way for you? Do you want someone to lead the way, or is it better to to just let it be a surprise? Speaking of surprise, I’m I’m going to stop this fooling around and write a poem. Love to you.
Okay, let’s try another Wobbly, to make up for the missing ones. I am, of course, home. We have walkers and wheelchairs all over the place. I have a doctor’s appointment today, working at regulating my medicines. When will I be able to walk without a walker? When will I be able to walk any distance without a wheelchair? I’m trying to keep my spirits up. I have missed spring, summer, and now fall, if you mean not being outside walking. It’s beautiful out there. Amy left Saturday, after helping out. We’re on our own.
